BBJ is a Salvation Army band. Because of this, its aims are not simply musical. The following is a translation of the band’s mission statement as published in an Indonesian language pamphlet prepared for distribution at the Palu congress (Central Sulawesi) in July 2009.
Mission
The Brass Band Jenderal (BBJ) is a Salvation Army band consisting of young Indonesians who wish to praise God and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through music.
Vision
- To promote the service and mission of the Salvation Amy by holding public performances, including performances with musicians from other churches
- To accompany the singing during regular services at Medan Corps II.
- To support the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of band members, particularly those who come from poor backgrounds or whose families face difficult circumstances.
- To encourage Salvationists all over Indonesia by holding public performances in places not normally visited by foreign Salvation Army bands.
